When You Leave The World Behind
My thoughts go out to the person looking over the edge of the bridge. Physically or internally.
Wondering what it actually means to leave this world behind. What it means to their partner. What it means to their parents. What it means to their friends, their coworkers or people they haven’t seen in 10 years.
And most importantly, what it means to themselves.
Are they ready to give up? Are they ready to let go of their future?
What if it changes? What if it gets better?
What will they miss out on?
What if they’re making a big mistake?
I don’t wish for anyone to find themselves at this place. You can be surrounded by people who love you, and still feel so alone. An internal battle that must be fought slowly until something, no matter the size, provides a big enough nudge to break the spell, to lift the veil, if only for a moment.
Emerging from this level of darkness can be shocking. When the realization of what’s happened comes to light and when weeks have passed by like it was all a dream.
Weeks of almost no happiness. Of no motivation. With a will to live shrinking smaller with each day. Colors are dimmed, relationships feel unimportant, work has no meaning and self care is non existent.
And the unsettling thoughts that make a person question it all.
I can only imagine how dark these thoughts get. And I am lucky that I can only imagine.
I am blessed to have been pulled out of that existence with enough force, to allow enough time, for me to say I’m not ready.
I’m not ready to give up. On my future. On my goals. And on the experiences still waiting to be had.
What if I’m letting go before my happiness is revealed?
What if tomorrow surprises me? It often can.
One day can be the difference between hopelessness and finding hope.
One walk in nature. One positive conversation. One hug.
All it can take is one experience to pull you out. To bring you back into a world you once knew. One with joy, meaning and goals. And most importantly, a world with a future.
Allow yourself this extra time. Allow yourself to experience just one more.
If you feel called to send a message, I’d love to hear from you.
Tell me your story, what you’re going through or anything else that’s on your mind.
